Cheng Yuan-lung (Kwan Hoi-shan) was a Walled City gambling den's boss. He left 2 sons Chia-chin (Kao Fei) and Chia-kang (Chien Hsiao-hou) to his friend Chiptooth (Pai Wen-piao) when he was killed. Chia-chin grew up and kept himself away from the sins although he worked as a floor man in a cabaret. However, Chia-kang mixed with a gang of hooligans and made his classmate Mei-ling (Liu Li-ling) pregnant. Mei-ling's father, the fiery-tempered Inspector Chang (Wang Lung-wei), forced Mei-ling to have an abortion, which led to Mei-ling's tragic death when she accidentally fell off a rooftop. Inspector Chang vowed to take revenge on Chia-chin and Chia-kang, and to do that he followed unwritten underworld rules...

One of Hong Kong's top action directors of all time, Liu Chia-liang makes a mind-numbing directorial debut in The Spiritual Boxer, which not only quickly established Liu as a genius director but also encouraged other martial art choreographers to take up the directing reigns. It was also the debut film of kung-fu comedienne Wang Yu as the main character, who in reality was part of Liu’s clan of stars that he personally trained for a film career. Its Ghostbusters meets George C. Scott’s The Flim-Flam Man as Wang plays a fake ghost catcher who catches more than he bargained for. Director Taylor Wong gathers a great cast for this politically charged romantic thriller. Dodo Cheng is a conscience-stricken lawyer defending a rapist. Renowned leading man Alex Man Chi-leung is her cop boyfriend. The glorious Joey Wang Jo-yin, the beautiful star of A Chinese Ghost Story, plays the villain's first victim. It's all capped off by the surprise guest appearance of the majestic Shaw Studio perennial, Ti Lung, as the man brought in to make sure that justice is done. Lawyer Yip Wing-man (Dodo Cheng) and Senior Inspector Fong Wai (Alex Man Chi-leung) are a pair of steady lovers who often clash officially. Good-looking photographer Dick-man Tien (Wilson Lam Chun-yin) appears in Court for raping model Joey Ling (Joey Wang Jo-yin), but is acquitted through the artful defence of lawyer Yip. Knowing Tien is guilty, Fong sympathizes with Joey and rather despises his girlfriend for her lack of justice. Joey's sister Ling Shan-shan (Prudence Liew), a delinquent, has a chance meeting with Tien in a bar. Seized by a mad desire to avenge her sister, she puts LSD into his drink, but ends up being caught and raped by him as well. Tien appears in Court again and Wing-man acts as his defence counsel in spite of Fong's objections. Shan-shan's past misbehaviour coupled with Wing-man's crafty defence puts her in a rather unfavourable position. As the chance of testifying against Tien is getting slim, the Prosecutor seeks the help of his brother John Lung (Ti Lung) to take up the case. The case takes a dramatic twist, as the relationship of the two lovers is put to the test.
